Public Toilets
Eyemouth Development Trust (EDT) have taken over the management of the one of the sets of public toilets in Eyemouth, those located in the car park at the start of Harbour Road next to the FMA. This is a 3 year pilot project in partnership with Scottish Borders Council (SBC), giving the Trust the opportunity to re-open public facilities and make them a sustainable facility going forwards.

EDT successfully re-opened these public toilets at the end of July this year, following months of liaison between SBC and a small working sub-group of Trustees and co-opted volunteers from local businesses. The project benefitted from grant funding to cover start-up costs from SBC, Coastal Communities Fund (CCF), the Neart na Gaoithe Wind Farm (NNG) and Eyemouth & District Chamber of Trade.

In order to create a regular income stream to help cover the running and maintenance costs, contactless payment systems were installed to charge the public to use the facilities, now commonplace when visiting popular tourist destinations like Eyemouth. However, vital to the success of this project, will be the need to continue to look at ways through which to raise further funds to help further improve and develop the facilities to include better services for visitors such as a changing places toilet, showers and bike cleaning & storage facilities.

The Trust recognises that improvements will, in turn, encourage more donations from those using the toilets and will add to the overall reputation of Eyemouth in becoming a destination with adequate and impressive infrastructure and facilities to support a wider demographic of visitor and user.

If you believe this project is positive for Eyemouth and if you are in a position to make a donation, your support would be very gratefully received. We are in the process of setting up a streamlined way to take payments, but if you would like to make a donation before that is available, please contact our secretary, Jemma, at secretary@eyemouth.org.
